The 1950 Census will be released in April 2022. It’s exciting for many who will finally see themselves on the records!! But it will not be indexed initially, so how do you find your family? If you know where they lived in 1950, it will be fairly simple, but what if you don’t know???

  • Check newspapers, city directories and telephone books at local libraries
  • Be sure you know where they lived in 1940; they may be at same address
  • Find other relatives, such as aunts, uncles, grandparents – all might be in same home
  • Check birth or death certificates for approximate location
  • Check address books, dairies, letters, school and church records
  • Find Social Security application, World War II Draft registration
  • Naturalization Records
  • Photographs

Next time, we will explore more information on finding your relatives.
